Why hire an interior designer?

My goal is to help create a functional, aesthetically pleasing space while helping the client avoid costly mistakes. I am also there to make sure the whole project, no matter the size and scope, goes smoothly.

What is the process when working with Hammond Design?

For most clients, I will come to your home for an initial consultation at no charge to discuss the project you want to work on. This is a meeting to get to know each other and see the space(s) that you would like help with. I bring a long list of questions to ask and I take careful notes about how you live, your likes and dislikes, and what your expectations are of working with me.

After our meeting I take the information I gathered and draw up a proposal for the project. The contract includes my fee, the deposit required to being the project, and a list of what we will be working on.

Occasionally someone will need a quick, one-time consultation that doesn't require a contract. I will come to your home for a set number of hours and work with you within that timeframe to accomplish your goals.

How much involvement will I have in the design process?

As much or as little as you want. Some people are too busy to take on the task of remodeling and redecorating while others want to do most of the legwork on their own. My job is to guide you in the right direction based on your level of involvement and end goal.

What do you charge for your services?

I charge an hourly rate plus a small travel fee. The travel fee is only charged one-way and it is used to cover my gas and mileage costs.

I will also do a one-time, flat fee consultation if your project is very small in scope (i.e. paint consultation, rearranging furniture, etc.). If you decide at a later date to work on a long-term project with me, I will apply part of the consultation fee to the new project.

Do you provide a discount on purchases made through Hammond Design?

Products and materials purchased through Hammond Design are charged to my clients at my cost. This may represent a significant discount from retail prices, since vendors often provide discounts or special pricing to design professionals. Instead of charging a mark-up on products, I charge my standard hourly fee for researching, ordering, and coordinating delivery of a product. Every vendor has their own policies on pricing, and sometimes there is no discount available.

Can I use my own contractor for a project or do I have to use yours?

You are welcome to use whomever you want for all aspects of the project. I have a long list of trade professional that I can recommend to you if you don't have someone to work with.

What areas do you serve?

I live in and work in the Greater Boston area. I also travel to Southern New Hampshire, Southern Coastal Maine, Cape Cod, Nantucket and Martha's Vineyard.

Referral Program

Referrals are a key to the success of my business. If you have a friend or family member in need of design help, please send them my way. For every referral that turns into a contracted project I will give you one free hour of design time to use on a current or future project.
